Is your contact information in the right place?

You have spent a lot of time and money  building your website and promoting it until the wee hours of the night. You finally get some traffic to your site and they want to contact you about your products or service but they can’t find your contact information…..B.A.D!

Does your website have an easy way for your customers to contact you? Is it in the right place on the website? Where is the right place? Who knows…but most people look in the top right corner first or at the bottom of navigation that is on the left side of the page. Lastly they might go to the footer (bottom of page) and look…but probably not.

Put you contact information in plain sight. If you offer phone support put the number with area code. 1-800 numbers used to be popular but most people have free long distance on their cell phone so don’t spend the money for a 800 number unless it becomes a problem. If you have a brick-n-mortar office put the address if you work from home you can get a PO box and call it a suite ex..123 Main Street suite #305.

This is also a good place to have links to your FAQ, privacy policy, and any warranty information if you offer one.

Remember, you work hard for every visitor. Don’t loose them over something easy to fix like this.

Thinking About a Website?

Here are some tips for those of you thinking about starting your first website.

Websites 1011. Decide what you want your website to accomplish.
Will you sell a product on your site or just provide information on your product in order to make the phone ring?

Do you like to write or have something to say? Maybe you need a blog.

2. Establish a budget for your new website.
Websites do not have to be expensive. Features that will increase the price are usually e commerce (shopping cart), Flash animation, custom programming, back end or admin section, excessive pages, etc…

Something to consider when starting is how the website will be maintained after it is up and running. Some people have the tech skills to update their own site and other don’t want to mess with it and have a website developer maintain their site.

You can build your site with a CMS (Content Management System) built in. This means that you can login to the admin section, go to the page you want to edit, and make the changes in a very friendly environment like Microsoft Word. You can also add new pages, links, etc…

This could add more to the cost of development but it will save you money later on with site maintenance.

3. Find a domain name.
A domain name is where your site will live on the internet like example.com. Domains cost about $15  per year or you can save some money if you register them for multiple years at a time.

4. Find a website developer.
Unlike brick and mortar business you do not have to deal with a local website developer to build your new website. Everything can be done with a few phone calls and email. Try to find a developer that will answer the phone, has a nice looking portfolio of past projects, speaks good english (or your language), uses a contract, and has a guarantee on their work.

Payments structure is normally 50% upfront and the balance when the site is complete and live on the internet.

5. Start gathering your product images and content
If you are starting a new business you will probably need a logo. Your website developer can probably take care of this for you or will recommend some that can.

Write your content for each page that will be on your new site and keep it in copy-n-paste format. You can email this to the developer when the time comes.

What is Google AdSense

Google AdSense is kind of the sister program to Google AdWords. AdWords is when you spend money to be on someone else’s website and AdSense is when you make money from other people advertising on your website.

Let’s say that you already have a website that gets pretty good traffic each month and you would like to try to make some extra income from that traffic, you could put Google AdSense ads on your site and every time someone clicks on one of those ads…you get paid!Google AdSense Logo

It works like this. You need to have a free Google account and a website to place the ads on. You cannot have gambling, pornography, or anything else that Google deems inappropriate on your website. You sign up for you AdSense account and place a small piece of code that Google provides on your site. After about 15 minutes or so ads will start showing up on your website based on the content of your site. If you have a site about pets, then the ads will usually be pet related. A music site will have music ads, etc…

Each time someone clicks on a ads on your site…you get paid! Each click pays a different amount based on the advertiser behind that particular ad and a few other factors. Click prices range from a few cents to a few dollars but they add up fast over a month. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER click on your own ads! This will get you banned from the AdSense program and that is not good, yes they will know what you did…lol

If you have multiple websites you can use the same AdSense account for all of them. There are many types of ad formats that you can choose from including text ads, image ads, videos, search, and a ton of different ad sizes to fit your placement needs.

So, to some it up, all you need is a website that gets some traffic and a free AdSense account and you are ready to start making some extra money.
